The Benefits of Probiotics for Your Health & Immune System
Have you ever wondered about the benefits of probiotics? We’ve got you covered… Because in this blog post, we’re going to dive into the benefits of probiotics and the foods you can eat to get them naturally.
What are probiotics?
According to the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health (NCCIH), “probiotics are live microorganisms that are intended to have health benefits when consumed or applied to the body.”
What are some of the benefits of probiotics?
The gut microbiome is a lush, living ecosystem. It works together with the immune system to help our cells stay healthy, strong, and efficient. Building a robust, diverse population of probiotics in the gut can help crowd out harmful bacteria and help the immune system function in a more powerful way.
Just like in our outside-world communities, diversity in the gut makes us stronger.
So, how do we build gut diversity?
There are two ways:
Eating lots of different types of nutrient-dense fiber helps incentivize a variety of good bacteria to grow. Things like:
- Fruits and vegetables
The other way to build gut diversity is to eat fermented foods that contain naturally occurring probiotics as in, not ones that have been added as a supplement after the fact. Things like:
- And yes, kombucha too!
Wishing you and your family abundant health during this wild time we’re all navigating.
